The 3929 Foundation started in the hospital when Jackson Layton was recovering from emergency surgery from his Stage IV colon cancer diagnosis. Matt Fitzmorris, son of Al Fitzmorris, was sitting in the room with Jackson’s father, Rob, and the decision was made to create a foundation to help others going through the tough battle of cancer. Al passed away from cancer in December of 2024, barely a month before Jackson’s diagnosis. 

Al, a former Royals Legend, was a proud member of the Major League Baseball Alumni Association, the Kansas City Royals Alumni Association, and a committed supporter of many Kansas City Royals charities. Beyond his baseball legacy, Al had a passion for music, often writing songs and playing his guitar. He enjoyed walking his beloved dogs, Casey and Otis, playing golf, watching Western movies, and spending time at Kauffman Stadium. Al’s greatest joy, however, came from his family, especially his grandchildren. Whether traveling to their sporting events, sharing his love of baseball, or hosting tent nights with movies, Al created cherished memories that will last for generations.

Jackson Layton is a former division 1 baseball player, outdoorsman, golfer, and jiu jitsu practitioner. He was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer on January 11th, 2025 at 27 years old. Through this diagnosis, Jackson has remained optimistic and hopeful. Rooted in his faith, he hopes to use his story to provide hope to other young cancer fighters, raise awareness about the rise of colon cancer in young adults, and share his testimony to bring others to Christ and show the power of God working in his life and others. 

The goal of The 3929 Foundation is to provide financial assistance to those who are battling cancer in any way we can, raise awareness of the rising rates of colon cancer and other cancers in young adults in partnership with other organizations and healthcare providers, and ensure that those who are battling cancer can find some sort of hope and relief during a very tough time. With faith and fellowship as the backbone of our foundation, we want to impact as many lives as we can in a positive way.
